The AG Palomino horse arrived yesterday. I named it Apollo.
It had a lot of defects (how'd this one make it through quality control???), but they're sending a new one out to me. Aside from the defects, I'd rate it about a B/B-, but I'll keep it because I need a horse.
I like that the horse is covered in velvet and has very silky mane and tail (like doll hair). It reminds me of the Victorian toy horses. Its eyes look OK. They should be bigger, but at least with the Palomino they darkened the velvet around the eye too, so he doesn't look so pig-eyed. His star on his forehead is very cute. I do wish they had not made his nose and the insides of his ears grey, but it's all right. What I didn't like: he's kind of expression-less and hence looks like a toy and not a horse. A nice toy, but a toy nonetheless. I've noticed that all the animals I've gotten from AG look like toys and not like animals, except Posie. Oh, well... they're cute anyway.
I really dislike that the velvet ends mid-way down the leg and the rest is plastic. It doesn't make sense to me- why don't they just cover his WHOLE leg with velvet and end it at his hooves, so he looks more like a real horse???
As for the accessories- they are a definite improvement on the old AG Horse ones. They are a decent color and the bridle is OK as far as authenticity- better than just the old noseband and reins bit. I like that the saddle blanket is plain white and not blue. The stirrups are nice and i like that they are separate- this will be handy for when Felicity rides since any proper colonial girl would ride sidesaddle and not astride. The saddle still needs a lot of work to be authentic. It's just a piece of leather with a buckle. I'm going to work on some embellishments to it to improve it. I have one main complaint with all the accessories- including the harness for the sleigh- they made everything too small! Everything just BARELY buckles and it was so hard for me to get everything on I can't imagine how a kid would get that sleigh hooked up.

Excellent Review! Thank you! I was actually thinking about getting the Palimino horse, but when I saw it at AGPNY, I just decided not to. It looked....I don't know. Lol.

I don't know anything about horses but ordered Penny last Christmas. Eventhough everyone said she was ugly, I thought she was very nice. Since the horses seem very expensive, Penny will be our only horse.
